Whitford H. Gill

Whitford H. "Whit" Gill of Wauneta passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 58 years old. Whit was born on Monday, June 8, 1959, at the Brush, Colorado Hospital to Harold Barton and Evelyn Jean (Simmons) Gill. Whitt was raised on the family farm northwest of Brush. He graduated with the class of '77 from Brush, CO and went on to Northwestern Jr. College in Sterling, CO to obtain an Associates Degree in Accounting. As an electrician, Whit worked on the Front Range and Western Slope with TOSCO and in Denver with McBride Electric. He contributed to rewiring the historic Denver Mint building and later, traveled the country to upgrade FAA logic controllers and security support systems at airport sites with Home Engineering. On May 30, 2015 he was united in marriage to Dawn Annette Hyde at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Wauneta. They made their home in Wauneta. Whit in his free time enjoyed cooking, auto mechanics, and was a member of the Fort Morgan Community Choir for many years where he sang bass. Preceding him in death were his mother, Jean Gill; his grandparents, Whitford H. and Lucille (Robinson) Gill and Joseph (Jack) and Florence (Cox) Simmons; aunt, Joyce (Simmons) Higy; uncles, Whitford B., Robert and Frank Gill; and father-in-law, Donald Hyde. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Gill of Wauneta; father, Harold Gill of Denver, CO; brother, David Gill of Denver, CO; sisters, Linda Gill of Yuma, CO and Meredith Gill and husband, Mike Bartasius, of Avon, CO; niece, Lauren Gill of Vail, CO; uncles, John Gill of Arvada, CO and Jim Higby, Arvada, CO; mother-in-law, Vaunda Hyde of McCook; brothers-in-law, Doug Hyde and wife, Faith, of McCook and Greg Hyde and wife, Tiffany, of Austin, TX; nephew and nieces, Chris Schaffert and family, Brianne (Adam) Bartlett and family, Austyn Hyde (Matt Kenner), Caitlyn and Madison Hyde; and a host of cousins and friends. Memorials may be given in his name.
