Virginian Ruth (Newman) Anderson born, the youngest of six, to John Nelson and Inez Marsha (Cottrell) Newman in Imperial, Nebraska on August 10, 1923. She passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 92 years old. Virginia graduated from Imperial High School and attended Colorado Womens College and the University of Nebraska. On December 1, 1946 she was united in marriage to Robert Louis Anderson at Imperial, Nebraska. They made their home in Indianola and eventually settled in McCook. Virginia was a busy homemaker and mother of four children: Barbara, Becky, Robert, and Mary. Virginia was a member of the McCook United Memorial Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter FA. She was an active volunteer for many community activities and organizations including the Community Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the United Way. She loved to golf, play bridge, and read. She was a BIG Nebraska Huskers fan and was first and foremost the number one cheerleader for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Anderson; parents, John and Inez Newman; daughter, Barbara Gaskins; siblings, Helen Anderson, Lois Greenley, John Newman, Wayne Newman and Margaret Newman. She is survived by son Robert Anderson of El Dorado Hills, California; daughters, Becky Kinney of Overland Park, KS and Mary Dueland (Dale) of McCook, NE; son-in-law, Kenneth Gaskins of Cave Creek, AZ; Grandchildren, John Gaskins, Jeffrey Kinney (Christine), Michael Kinney (Robin), Kristin Kinney Holdhusen (Brad), Sara Anderson, Dana Anderson, Anna Dueland Hunnicutt (Zach), and Neal Dueland; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. Memorials may be given in her name to the American Diabetes Association or Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
