Victor Monzon

Victorio Monzon, age 90, of McCook, NE, was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his home, Sunday evening, April 10, 2022. Victor was born in McCook on Dec. 23, 1931, to Jesus and Fransica (Melendez) Monzon. He attended McCook Public School. At age 19, Victor joined the United States Navy on January 3, 1951, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1954. On April 23, 1952, Victor was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Wakefield in McCook. The couple made their home in McCook raising their family. He was employed by the Dayco plant for over 30 years. Victor was never idle; he always had several jobs. He taught or showed his children an excellent work ethic and to be independent. Victor, in his leisure time, would do wood working, loved to plant a vegetable garden and flowers. He loved to watch Bison and Nebraska football, if it didnt interfere with his jobs. He and Mary Ellen took vacations to his sisters in Arizona and to New Mexico. They also took several cruises to the Bahamas, St. Thomas, and the Caribbean. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Moody; siblings, Louise (Jack) Taylor, Waunita (Victor) Jones, Angel (Lucille) Monzon, Pete (Bonnie) Monzon, Joseph Monzon, Mary Seaman, Teresa Monzon and an infant sibling. Victor is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, of McCook; five daughters: Debra (Kevin) Hayes of Kasilof, Alaska, Pamela (Gary) Hartwell of McCook, Jeanne Moody of McCook, Vicki (Gary) Pevoteaux of Pratt, Kan., and Michelle Clapp of Indianola, Neb.; son, Gregory (Collette) Monzon of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Brenda Monzon of Littleton, Colo.; and brother-in-law, Kenny Seaman of Mexico. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 6:00 PM with Father Alldar as celebrant at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be performed at graveside by United States Naval Honors Detail. Memorials may be left in Victor's name. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
