Verna Arlene Estergard

Verna A. Estergard, age 98, of Cambridge died at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Thursday November 8, 2012. She was born in Frontier County, North of Cambridge on May1, 1914 to Ray and Pearl (Carter) Coleman. Verna graduated from Cambridge High School in 1932. She taught country school for several years.

In 1934, she was married to Raymond Estergard. To this union five children were born. Verna and Raymond farmed and the local sale barn. The couple move to Holdrege where thay bought the Charles Hotel. Raymond preceded her in death in Holdrege, Verna continued to run the hotel and work at the hospital during the day. In 1965, Verna moved to California with her two children. She worked in the medical field, but always had a second job someplace.

Her real love was to travel. She has been on every continent, using her money from her second job.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; a son Dennis Ray and her brother John Coleman.

She is survived by her older sister Pauline of Lexington, NE; 3 daughters: Barbara Lyons of Marion, NE, Diane Nichols of Cambridge; Joyce and husband Mike Carson of New Braunsfells, TX; son: Bruce Estergard from Garden Grove, CA; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services are will be set for Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 10:30 AM at the Congregational Church in Cambridge with Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com. Memorial in her name to the Assisted Living Facility of Tri Valley Health Systems
