Twila Virginia Nokes, age 98, a 13-year resident of Thornton, Colorado and former resident of McCook, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday evening, July 8, 2020 at the Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She was born on June 14, 1922 to Reuben and Opal Alice (Reeves) Breach in Indianola, Nebraska. Twila grew up in Indianola and graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1940. Twila married Lloyd Leslie Nokes on June 21, 1941 at Oberlin, Kansas. They moved to California where Lloyd was employed by North American Aircraft. Lloyd entered the United States Army Air Corp in 1942. The family moved to Denver, Colorado after his honorable discharge in 1946. Twila was busy at home raising their growing family. In 1967, they moved to McCook where she was an active member of the First Congregational Church of McCook. They moved back to the Denver area in 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Merwin in 1980; her husband, Lloyd in 2011 and her daughter, Diane Messing in 2019. Survivors include Twilas children: Ronald Wayne Nokes of Westminster, Colorado, son-in-law, David Messing of Kirkland, Washington, and Steven Lynn Nokes of Ft. Meyers, Florida; sister, Verla Ahrens of Mesquite, Nevada; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Graveside Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2020 at the Danbury - Marion Cemetery in rural Red Willow County. No viewing; cremation was chosen. Memorials may be given to the family of Twila Nokes and friends may sign the register at Herrmann - Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
