Timothy Earl Bennett

Timothy Earl Bennett, age 63, of McCook, NE passed away on December 24th, 2016 at his home in McCook after a short but very courageous battle with cancer. Tim was born on January 1, 1953 in Kearney, NE the son of Harold Earl Bennett and Margaret (Patty) Mildred (McMahan) Bennett. Tim was an outstanding athlete in high school while attending Chase County High School in Imperial, NE from where he graduated in 1970. In football, Tim was a 4 time South Platte Valley Association Athletic Conference All-Conference selection and was also a member of the Chase County High School State Championship Golf Team in 1970. He later attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO. He spent most of his adult life working the construction trade as a carpenter working for Shepherd Construction and later CBS Constructors and had recently retired from the McCook Daily Gazette. He had a deep love for his family and many friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved his time spent living in Wyoming and often spoke of the beauty and his love of the Bighorn Mountain Range. He was also an avid follower of McCook Bison Football Team attending all home games until his health would no longer allow it. Survivors include his parents, Harold & Patty Bennett of McCook; fiance Tina Conroy of McCook; sister, Daylene Bennett of Estes Park, CO; brothers, Tom and wife, Jody, of McCook, Terry and wife, Tammy, of Estes Park, CO, Tony and wife, Sharon, of McCook, and Todd and wife, Julie, of Grand Island, NE; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, G. Peter Burger in 2015. A Tim Bennett Memorial Fund has been set up honoring Tims life. The distribution of the Memorial Fund will be given at a later date. Memorial services and a celebration of Tims life will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. Burial will be held at a later time.
