Thelma (Metzer) Brenning went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 12, 2022. She spent her first five years on the farm southeast of Culbertson, Nebraska. After the flood in 1935, the family moved into Culbertson. Thelma graduated from Culbertson High School in 1946. She married Kenneth Brenning on August 17,1947 and he encouraged her in all her activities. They adopted a daughter, Nancy to make their family complete. Thelma was involved in the Culbertson United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and taught the high school Sunday School class for over 20 years. She also sponsored the Youth Fellowship for many years. She served as a lay-leader for the church, audited the church books, and put out the church newsletter. Later she became the Southwest District Lay-leader. Thelma also served as a United Methodist District Officer and Conference Officer, traveling to New York City, Dallas, Texas, Oklahoma City, and St. Louis, Missouri with her officer training. She served the Nebraska Schools of Christian Mission in several capacities. She was also a certified lay speaker and spoke at various United Methodist Churches. She loved crocheting, sewing, and doing many things with her hands. Thelma crocheted many prayer shawls for the church over the years. Jesus Christ and being a Christian were a very important part of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents, Loyd and Clara Metzer and her husband, Kenneth Brenning. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ward; granddaughters Julie Ward and Melissa Lambert; brother, Marvin Metzer and his daughters, Lisa Chapin and husband, Charlie, of Meridian, Idaho and Lynn Metzer-Villanueva and husband, Ray, of Rocklin, California. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2022 from 3-6pm at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Funeral services will be at 11am on Monday morning, October 17, 2022 at Trinity Methodist Church in Culbertson with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Interment will follow services in the Culbertson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family of Thelma Brenning for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
