CAMBRIDGE, Neb. Ted D. Hosick, 79,
passed away peacefully Monday, June 12, 2017,
surrounded by his loved ones
in the home he built in Cambridge.
He was born in Moorefield, Neb. on March 30, 1938,
to Vance and Wanda (Stinnette)
Hosick. Ted attended
and graduated from the University
of Nebraska School of
Agriculture in 1956, in Curtis,
Neb. Ted married his high
school sweetheart, Mary Lou Owens on Aug 4,
1957, in Curtis and they would have celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary this August.
After high school graduation, Ted and his father
went into partnership and owned the Hosick
John Deere Implement, in Curtis. In 1961, Ted
enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Anchorage,
Alaska. Ted received an Honorable Discharged
in 1963. While in the service, Ted was an
information specialist, which lead to employment
by the IBM Corporation in Denver, Colo. In 1973,
Ted and Mary Lou returned to Nebraska to start
a family hardware business in Cambridge. They
owned and operated the Gambles Hardware and
later Coast to Coast Store. After closing this business,
Ted worked for Ben Franklin of McCook, and
Ag Valley Co-Op in Indianola, Neb. In 2004, he
started working at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of
Cambridge and Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel
in McCook.
Ted was community minded and was active in
the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department/EMTs,
Furnas County Sheriff s Posse, Butler Memorial
Library Board, and the Airport Authority Board.
Ted enjoyed many hobbies including team roping
with the Cambridge Saddle Club, boating, camping,
Country Music festivals, working in his shop,
and his latest adventure of building and flying
Radio controlled airplanes with his neighbor. Ted
enjoyed spending time with his friends
and family, and especially teasing his
grandchildren. Ted had a creative mind
and his family will remember his ability
to invent or fix anything.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; parents-
in-law, Lewis and Ava Owens; infant brother,
Benny; sister, Bonnie Hosick; twin granddaughters,
Korrine and Ashley Hosick; brother-in-law,
Kenneth Mullen.
Ted is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Cambridge;
two sons, Doug of Hutto, Texas and Don
and wife Shelley of Minden, Neb.; daughter; Denise
and husband, Brad Wolfe, of Grand Island,
Neb.; six grandchildren; sister, Yvonne Mullen of
Sun Lake, Ariz.; and numerous nephews, nieces,
and cousins.
