Susan Jo Thompson

Susan J. Thompson, age 57, of McCook passed away at her home in McCook on June 15, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born in Eugene, Oregon on December 31, 1959 to Darrell and Doris (Millburn) Tryon. At a young age, Susan's family moved to Nebraska. She attended grade school in Chadron and attended high School in Valentine. On August 12, 1994, she was united in marriage to Gregg Thompson. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2014. Susan had many jobs in her lifetime from cleaning homes, working at the Cedar Motel in housekeeping, and worked as a general contractor building and remodeling homes. She worked as a bartender for 15 years at the S&R Saloon in Danbury that she owned with her previous husband. Her last job that she enjoyed until her illness was driving a pilot car for over-sized loads going down the highway. Susan enjoyed her pets (dog and cats), crafting, yard work and camping. She was preceded in death by her father, Darrell; husband, Gregg Thompson; and great-aunt, Lois Millburn. Susan is survived by her daughter, Rene Jackson and husband, Jeff Jeffery, of McCook; mother, Doris Tryon of Indianola; brother, Darrell and wife, Rhonda Tryon, of Indianola; sister; Marian and husband, Dave Stewart, of Grand Island, NE; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral chapel in McCook on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:30 pm. A private inurnment will take place in the Danbury Cemetery at a future date.
