Stanley L Cox, age 86, of McCook, Nebraska, died at his home on December 29, 2014. He was born in McCook, NE on October 08, 1928 to Earnest E Cox and Mary Etta (Young) Cox. Stanley attended McCook Public Schools until the 8th grade, when his Dad became ill and he needed to go to work to help support his family which included five sisters. He held various jobs over his lifetime including unloading the train, to construction and his final career of working as a lineman for 39 years for the McCook Public Power District. He joined the United States Marines on February 21, 1952 and received his Honorable Discharge on February 20, 1954. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, he met Rochelle Ann Girard and they married on February 25, 1954. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2003. Before Rochelles passing you could find them camping on whatever lake that was catching the most fish with whatever family could join them on the weekends. He also enjoyed spending time on his tractor. It was said that he would get on the tractor and have to be pulled off of it. He enjoyed hunting pheasant and deer, remodeling houses, gardening and going to auctions. Later in life you could find him in a Bingo hall in McCook and Norton Kansas any night of the week and weekend. In the 1970, Stan and Rochelle were active with the McCook REACT team providing assistance to motorist and other emergencies. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rochelle; son: Stanley L. Cox Jr.; granddaughter: Cassandra Lee Cox; grandson: Matthew Cox; 5 sisters: Cleora Jay Cox; Doris Mohr; Mamie Hackenkamp Knosp; Lois Schneider; and Mavis Monard. He is survived by his daughter: Ernestine and husband Robert Smith; 2 sons: Cloyd and wife Lea Cox; and Kevin and wife Pamela Cox all of McCook, NE; 5 grandchildren; Adam Smith, Bryan Cox, Bradley Cox, Shaun Cox, and Jennifer Cox all of McCook, 2 step grandchildren, Anna (Bobby) Degener and Glenn (Liz) Taylor and. 5 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews: and brother-in-laws: Carl Mohr of McCook, NE., Darrell Girard of Cheyenne, WY and sister in law Marsha Meinert of Palmdale. CA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be held at the graveside. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM till 6:00 PM and from 1:00 PM till 5 PM on January 1, 2015.
