Sharon Felker

March 17, 1940 — October 14, 2025

McCook

Sharon Rose (Dowling) Felker passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

She was born in McCook, NE on March 17, 1940, to Russell Lyle and Fern Glee (Cassell) Dowling. She attended the McCook Public Schools, graduating from McCook Senior High School in 1958. She attended Doane College in Crete, NE.

Sharon married Jerry Felker in 1960 in McCook, NE. To this union, five children were born: Mark, Kelly, Robin, Kirk, and Dirk.

Sharon held various secretarial and office management positions throughout her career, including with KBRL Radio, McCook Telephone Company, and the McCook Gazette. She also worked at PAKS facility in Ogallala serving adults with developmental challenges. Her career included contributions to newspapers in McCook, Indianola, Curtis, Ogallala, and Kearney. Sharon even had her own column in the Ogallala newspaper, where she shared true stories about residents at the local nursing home.

She later worked as a paraprofessional for the Keystone Rural School and as an office manager for churches in Gothenburg, Ogallala, and Broken Bow. Alongside her professional work, she partnered with her husband in the insurance business. Sharon was also an active speaker for the Christian Women’s Club and volunteered her time serving on election boards and with the Blood Mobile in McCook.

She found great joy and fulfillment in being a mother to her five children. Her love for her husband and children ran only second behind the Love which she always tried to exemplify for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—a committed decision she made at 31 years of age. She had a way of loving the unlovables in our society and loved to try and make people laugh. She had a fun-loving spirit.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Jerry; children: Mark, Kelly, Robin (Mike Remm), Kirk (Tracy), and Dirk; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carrol (Warren Barnell) and Roger (Maureen); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Janis (Mark).
