Ruth B. Shields

Ruth B. Shields of McCook passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at Community Hospital. She was 93 years old. Ruth was born on December 20, 1925 at Indianola to parents, Carl and Millie (Fichtner) Bamesberger. She graduated from McCook High School in 1943. On August 14, 1948 she was united in marriage to Howard William Shields at North Platte, NE. Ruth was a busy wife, homemaker and mother of four children, Nancy, Michael, Tom, and Mary. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women Missionary League, and helped with many other aspects within the church. Ruth was a member of PEO and the Hospital Auxiliary where she served as a Pink Lady for many years. She enjoyed playing cards especially Bridge, reading and quilting. Happy Hour with her girlfriends was always a treat. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren often attending their many events. Preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Millie Bamesberger; husband, Howard Shields on October 24, 1986; and her siblings, Arlene Clapp, Kenneth Bamesberger, Norma Burton, and Iris Rowley. Survivors include her children, Nancy (Bill) Minnick of Cambridge, Michael (Deb) Shields, Tom (Cindy) Shields and Mary (Monte) Hazlitt all of McCook; grandchildren, Brian (Erin) Minnick, Kyle (Samantha) Minnick, Creighton (Kindra) Shields, Lisa (Craig) Pietig, Mitch (Aimee) Hazlitt, Allyx (Dillon) Garretson, Lindsey (Adam) Siegfried, Drew Shields, Krystal (Clayton) Weber and Brent (Tonia) Hazlitt; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Lueking of Fallbrook, CA; brother, Dale (Janet) Bamesberger of Indianola; sisters-in law, Helen Maurer of Holdrege and June Bamesberger of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2019, at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, from 10:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 17, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, McCook, with Pastor Lonnie Felcher officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
