ARAPAHOE, Neb. -- Roy Albert Melton, 93, died July 3, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Arapahoe, Nebraska. He was born June 1, 1922, in Russell Springs, Kansas, to May and John Melton. He grew up on a farm near Bartley, Nebraska, and later worked on a farm in Palisade, Nebraska. After a long employment with Montgomery Ward in McCook, he worked at McCook Community College until his retirement. He loved working in the yard, taking great pride in his lawn and flowers. He was a kind, honest, gentle man; no one ever had a bad word to say about him. On Sept. 29, 1942, he married Lilyan R. Melton at Cambridge. In 1953, they moved to McCook, where he lived for 59 years before moving to Good Samaritan in Arapahoe. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife and their son, John; his brother, Lester Melton and wife, Ethel of California; sister, Juanita and brother-in-law, Vayle Bunker of Cambridge; brother, James Melton and sister-in-law, Carolyn of McCook. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Mues (Steven) of Rochester, Minnesota, and Nelda Waxman (Frank) of Salida, Colorado; three grandchildren, Stefanie Mues Thackeray (Dennis), Daniel Waxman, and Dr. Jennifer Waxman Bundrick (John); two great-grandchildren, Blake and Kyle Thackeray; and niece, Linda Bunker Sandman of Cambridge. Inrnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook at 3 p.m. on July 14, 2015. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com
