Rose B Wittwer

Rose B. Wittwer, originally of McCook, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Good Samaritan Center in Wood River, Nebraska, where she had been residing since March. She was 91 years old. Rose was born on February 3, 1925, at Alma, Nebraska, to parents Fred and Emily (Seibold) Beck. She grew up in southwest Nebraska and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1943. She later attended Midland College at Fremont. On September 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to William Wittwer. They made their home on a farm near Culbertson moving to McCook in 1955. Rose was a homemaker and mother of three daughters, Kathleen, Susan and Karen. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone for a few years. She was also an aviation weather observer for many years. Rose was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, traveling, visiting with family, reading, listening to music, and playing cards, especially bridge. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Emily Beck; her husband, William Wittwer on October 25, 1980; brother-in-law Henry Hurlburt; nephew, Richard Hurlburt; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose and Carl Detloff. Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Wittwer of Eugene, Oregon; Susan and husband Mike Plautz of Ravenna, Nebraska; and Karen and husband Brian Kiekow of Two Harbors, Minnesota; brother Erwin Beck and wife Lois of Fremont, Nebraska; sister Lydia Hurlburt of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Emily Plautz and husband Adam Post, and Elise Plautz; and several nephews and a niece. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Sunday, September 25, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook at 10:30 September 26, 2016 with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating.
