Rosalie May Desmond

Rosalie "Rose" M. Desmond, age 91, formerly of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of Oberlin, KS. She was born in Wilsonville, NE on January 20, 1932, to Earl and Lizzie Belle (Bates) Palmer. Rose attended and graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1950. Rose was united in marriage to Bennie G. Desmond on July 24, 1951. To this union three children were born: Bennie Jr., Dannie, and Marilyn. Rose attended and graduated from the McCook Beauty College and opened her own shop in Cambridge. She and Bennie moved to McCook in 1974 and opened Westside Beauty and Barber. After retirement the couple lived at Brookdale Retirement Living in McCook until their health declined, when they moved to Oberlin, KS to be close to family. Rose had an infectious personality and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. She filled their family homes with beautiful blankets, potholders and slippers. She followed her kids and grandkids programs and sporting events. She was the rock of the family, patient and solid in her foundation. Rose was a member of the McCook Christian Church She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; sisters, Ila (LeRoy) Potter, Gail (Gail) Kasson; brother, Darrell Palmer; brother-in-law, Jerry Bennett. Rose is survived by her daughter, Marilyn and husband, Steve Diederich of Oberlin, KS; two sons, Bennie Jr. and wife, Rhonda Desmond of Torrington, WY, Dannie and wife, Terri Desmond of Lincoln, NE; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Joan Bennett of Cozad; sister-in-law, June Palmer of Wilsonville, NE; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and wife, Catherine Desmond of Lusk, WY. Memorial services will be held at the McCook Christian Church on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM with Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Inurnment will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery on April 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Roses name at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel to a memorial to be named later. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
