Ronald Scott

September 9, 1945 — May 26, 2025

Ronald Dale Scott, our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Monday, May 26th (Memorial Day, 2025), surrounded by lots of loving family. Ron was born on September 9, 1945, in the village of Palisade, Nebraska, to Harley Alan Scott and Helen Marie (Phelps) Scott. He was the youngest of eight children. Ron was admired by family and friends for the stories he’d tell about being ornery and what it was like growing up in Western Nebraska.

Ronald lived a life rich in music, stories, and love. Ron picked up the guitar at a young age and taught himself to play guitar and sing. For six decades, Ron graced the stage with his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics, captivating audiences in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. Ron Scott led vocals first with The Country Cousins, later with the Whiskey River Band, and most recently (since 1971) with Ron Scott and the Roadmasters. Ron and his band toured for several years, celebrated at many weddings, anniversaries, reunions, and his voice graced many funerals. He was once quoted saying, “I don’t care where I play as long as the audience is happy with what I’m doing.”

Beyond performing, Ronald loved family. His daughters: Lisa (Phil) Miles, Becky Conroy, Anggi (Brad) Stephen, Barb (Rick) Hoffmann, Brenda (Blaine) Lancaster, and Amy (Leighton) Wyscaver; and his sons: Jerry Scott, Harley (Val) Scott, and Mike Brown were treasured. Ron leaves to mourn his passing Janet Elaine (Doak) Lawver, Rozanne (Hummel) Scott, and Julie (Maine) Scott. Ron’s legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and music left in the hearts of all who knew him including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Harley Alan Scott and Helen Marie (Phelps) Scott; his brothers, Gene, Darwin, Dorrance and VerDon; his sisters Mavis, Phyllis, and Joyce; his son-in-law, Tony Conroy and grandson, Dillon Conroy.
