Obituary

     Roger Donald Brougham was born on July 8, 1936, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to James and Ruth (Johnson) Brougham. In 1958, he began a distinguished 22-year career in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, Roger earned his GED in 1962 through the United States Armed Forces Institute in Mondovi, Wisconsin. His military career took him across the globe, where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honored with numerous awards and citations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnamese Service and Campaign Medals, a Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

     Following his honorable discharge, Roger made southwest Nebraska his home. On February 24, 2013, he married his beloved wife, Carol, in Indianola, Nebraska. The couple resided in Cambridge, where Roger held various positions, including employment with Gas-n-Shop, serving as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, and working for a time at the McCook Gazette. His final and longest tenure was with the Cambridge Co-op, where he spent many years cultivating many relationships across their locations in Cambridge, Arapahoe, and Indianola.

     Roger’s interests included hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He cherished the companionship of his dogs and treasured spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. Moments shared often unfolded to classic country music playing in the background, reflecting his enduring love of life and family.

     Roger’s servant heart stayed with him always. He was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, holding many leadership positions in the VFW Post #9357 of Holbrook, Nebraska. He was also an active a supportive member of the Cambridge Area Rotary Club and the VA.

     Roger passed away on May 2, 2026, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 89 years of age.

     Roger Donald Brougham’s life was marked by dedicated service, strong community ties, and a deep commitment to his loved ones. He will be remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ron, Richard and James Brougham.

     Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Carol Brougham; children: Scott Brougham, Steve Brougham and wife, Karen, Kelly Cappel and husband, Steven, Kristie Geoghagan and husband, Mark and Shannon Brougham and wife, Jenny; grandchildren: Kelli Grambeau, Lindsey Carroll, Cameron Brougham, Cassidy Fredericksen, Mathew Cappel, Emily Cox, Kirsten Schrage, Katie Johns, Gavin Geoghagan, Jakob Brougham and Lukas Brougham; great-grandchildren: Bennett and Palmer Grambeau, Ava and Clayton Carroll, Nash Fredericksen, Ryder and Klaryce Cappel, Kitiera Eschliman, Madilyn, Jase and Alicyn Cox, Sutton Schrage and McKenzie and Lynden Johns; well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

     Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.

     Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge with Father Kenneth Wehrs celebrating. Burial with full Military Honors in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge will follow services.

     Memorials in Roger's name are suggested to the VFW Post #9357 in Holbrook, Nebraska. Online condolences may be left at lockenour.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.
