Robert LeRoy Ruppert, age 82 of McCook, died January 3, 2021. He was born on April 18, 1938 to Jay and Doris (Meissner) Ruppert at Quick, NE (Frontier County). He married Velma Jean Speth on December 26, 1957 whom he was married to for 63 years. Bob and Jean farmed north of McCook on his home place where he was raised until he retired. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildrens activities throughout the years. On childrens activities days he would get to the field early and work through dinner so he could be at the games early to see all the kids play both reserve and varsity. He attended all of their activities, not just sports. Bob was a member of the Garden Prairie Methodist Church. He was a member of the Quick baseball team and later played in Maywood. Bob served on the ASCS, the West Sale Barn, and the Maywood Coop Boards for several years. He is survived by his wife Velma (Jean), children Deanna (Lyle) Koester of Wellfeet, Lynne Niemeyer of Omaha, Steven Ruppert of Omaha, and Janice (Randy) Arent of Maywood; grandchildren Garret Koester of Wellfeet, Staci (Zachary) Adam of Hyannis, Brooke (Tyler) Guthrie of Arapahoe, Susan (Brandon) Gardels of Omaha, Evan Niemeyer of Omaha, Ethan Niemeyer of Ames, Iowa, Kelvin Arent of North Platte, Brandon Arent of Maywood; great-grandchildren Braxton and Kyson Adam, Kobie, Stella, and Gentry Guthrie, and Scarlet and Silas Gardels; sisters Helen Magee and Mary Zimbleman of McCook; sisters-in-law Donna Ruppert and Naomi Ruppert of McCook and Peggy Speth of St. Catharine, Missouri; brother-in-law Dean and Donna Speth of Unadilla, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and in-laws Dale Ruppert, John and Lola Ruppert, Homer Ruppert, Ferris Magee, Anna and Cecil Rowley, Gary Trosper, Marlin Zimbelman, Robert and Bernice Speth, Glen and Emma Speth, Ralph and Betty Speth, John and Lois Speth, Richard Speth, and Pansy Speth. Visitation will be Thursday January 6, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. with family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dale Heimer. Interment will be in the Garden Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Garden Prairie Church, Garden Prairie Cemetery, Maywood Ambulance and EMTs or the donors choice. Friends may lave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.
