Robert Glenn "Bob" Keating, age 86, of rural Palisade, NE passed away November 24, 2019 at Great Plains Regional Hospital in North Platte, NE with his wife by his side, celebrating their 62 anniversary the day of his passing. Bob was born in a snowstorm at his grandparents home on January 14, 1933 in Hayes County, Nebraska to parents, Walter Nicholas and Betty Leona (Smith) Keating . He attended country school during elementary grades. He graduated from Palisade High School with the class of 1950. He worked on the family farm for the following summer. In the fall of 1951, Bob joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He served on the ship USCGC Klamath in search and rescue and saw very little land during his tour of duty. When Bob returned home in 1954 with an honorable discharge, he met the love of his life, Alta Malone. After Alta finished cosmetology school, the couple married November 24, 1957. This marriage was blessed with the birth of three children, Teresa, Deon and Lesa. God was an important part of Bobs life and he was a very active church member. He was baptized as a baby and received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. In 1972, Bob and Alta bought their farm north of Palisade where they still reside at present time. He farmed and raised cattle and hogs for many years. In 1989, they began carrying the mail for HWY contract to Haigler, NE six days a week while still farming and raising cattle. Bob also did custom harvesting, bailing hay, planting crops and farming for other people. Bob was a great mentor to many young people who worked with him and his family on the farm. Bob was a member of the McCook Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their activities. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, Cornhusker football, and was an avid reader of the Bible. Bob was a very hard-working, loving, caring and humble man. He leaves a great legacy for his family to carry on. Preceding him in death was his parents, Walter and Betty Keating; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Fester; mother-in-law, Lucille Hayes Buechler; father-in-law, Gale Malone and wife, Dorothy; and great-grandson, Caleb Robert Gibbs. Survivors include his wife of 62 years of rural Palisade; children, Teresa Maddux of Palisade, Deon Keating of Palisade, and Lesa and husband, Jim Johnson, of Hayes Center; grandchildren, Sabrina (Chris) Sandoval, Blaine Johnson, Justin (Holly) Hamilton, Alisha (Levi) Lucero, Jenny (Bryan) Gibbs, Tristan Johnson and special friend, Sara Larson; great-grandchildren, Mandy, Lillian, Cadence, and Owen Sandoval; Ashton and Chett Lucero; Brayden and Brylee Hamilton; Kaitlynn and Audrey Gibbs; and a host of extended family and friends. Memorials may be given in Roberts name and sent to Pioneer Credit Union, PO Box 117, Palisade, NE 69040, and will be designated later by family. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 27, 2019, 10:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with family present from 5:00 7:00 p.m. to greet friends. In keeping with Bobs wishes the casket will be closed. Funeral service will be Friday, November 29, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, NE with a Masonic Service. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE, 2:30 p.m. with full military honors. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
