Robert "Bob" Burke Hoyt of McCook passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, WY after a brief courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. Bob was born April 12, 1943, in McCook to parents, Cloyd Franklin and Lola (Burke) Hoyt. He graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1961. He continued his education at McCook Junior College and Colorado State University in Fort Collins. On April 29, 1965 he entered the Army National Guard of Nebraska where he served as a crane operator and tank driver. He proudly served his country until November 7, 1970 when he was honorably discharged. Bob was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Libby" Ann Hassler on October 12, 1968 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in McCook. To this union four beautiful daughters were born, Martina "Marty", Edith "Edie", Jessica and Roberta "Berta". The family made their home in the McCook community where Bob was employed with the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He dedicated 25 years of service until his retirement. Bob was a member of the Cornerstone Church. He was an integral part of the McCook Community College Rodeo Team as a mentor and coach, a position he loved and was respected for. Bob loved his grandchildren and cherished every moment he had with them. In his free time, you could find him fishing, bird watching, and gardening. He was known as the "can man" often walking for hours along the roadside and ditches picking up aluminum cans. Preceding him in death were his mother, Lola Hoyt; and two infant sisters. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Libby Hoyt of McCook; four daughters, Marty Hoyt of Seattle, WA, Edie and husband, Rus Rushing, of Pine Bluffs, WY, Jessica and husband, David Miller, of McCook and Berta and husband, Justin Weber, of Cheyenne, WY; father, Cloyd Hoyt of Thayer, IA; brother, William "Bill" Hoyt and wife, Barbara, of McCook; two sisters, Loree Neiman of Round Rock, TX and Beverly and husband, Robert Brown, of Thayer, IA; eight grandchildren; his canine companion, "Buud"; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in his name to the Salvation Army. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2019, 10:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. to greet friends.
