Robert 'Bob' Dean Bauer

Culbertson, Neb. Robert Bob Dean Bauer was born on May 13, 1937, in Culbertson, Nebraska, the son of Walter and Mae (Unger) Bauer. Bob departed this earthly life with his family by his side on April 8th 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He grew up on the Bauer family farm west of Culbertson, NE. He attended and graduated from Culbertson High (Home of the Culbertson Bears) in 1955. While in high school Bob participated in Football, Basketball, as well as Track and Field. After graduating, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force serving both at home and abroad for 4 years. In 1959, while stationed in Ogden, Utah, Bob met Betty Rae Milliken from Salt Lake City. The couple married June 10th of that year. After his time in the service, Bob and Betty returned to Culbertson to work on the family farm. To this union two children were born, Michael and Roger. The couple later moved back to the Salt Lake City area where Bob worked in the cement forming industry, while Betty worked in the food industry. During this time, Bob and Betty became life-long friends with Gerald and Rosemary Corey. In 1975 Bob and his family returned to Culbertson to resume farming. Besides traditional farming, Bob and Betty operated a pheasant farm in which they supplied pheasants to various hunting clubs throughout the Midwest. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family as well as the Coreys. Bob and Gerald made numerous trips to Alaska spending in upwards of 3 months hunting moose, bear, and caribou. They also fished for salmon and halibut during their Alaskan adventures. He was also a life time member of the National Rifle Association. Bob was also an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football and Volleyball teams and enjoyed watching them with his family. Bob looked forward to preparing and planting a large vegetable garden every spring, in which he enjoyed sharing the harvest with members of the community. Later in life, he loved viewing the birds and deer that passed through the farm. Bob was proceeded in death by his parents Walter and Mae Bauer, as well as his youngest son Roger W. Bauer (1961-2005). Survivors include his wife, Betty of Culbertson. Son Michael and wife Elena Bauer of Culbertson. Brothers William Bill and wife Mary Bauer of McCook, Walter Fritz Bauer of Culbertson and sister, Shirley Adams of Kearney, NE. Grandchildren include, Brittany Bauer of Omaha, NE. Christine Sullivan of North Platte, NE, and Jeremy Nickerson of Trenton, NE. Great grandchildren Merissa Panek of North Platte, NE and Blake Nickerson of Culbertson, NE. As well as nieces, nephews, and a large host of friends. Services will be April 14th, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Culbertson, NE with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. The family will hold a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Culbertson Rescue. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
