Richard 'Dick' W. Woolwine

Richard "Dick" W. Woolwine, age 79, of McCook passed away at the Kearney Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 7, 2019. He was born on May 23, 1940 to Hubert Harold and Edna Ruth (Cochran) Woolwine in Enid, Oklahoma. Dick graduated from Enid High School. He continued his education at Kearney State College earning a degree in Criminal Justice. Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged on June 24, 1963. He was married to Beverly Rae Search and to this union two daughters were born: Cherie and Jan. Dick was later united in marriage to Jan (Helberg) Wiemers on August 25, 2012 in McCook. Dick worked for the McCook Police Department and gained the rank of Sargent. He later worked for the Nebraska Liquor Commission and as a Security Officer for the Department of Energy. He was a Certified Firearms Training Officer for the Department of Energy. Dick was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #1434 of McCook, American Legion, Professional Photographers of America, and First Congregational Church of McCook. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved teaching survival skills to his grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Edna Woolwine; and brother, Phil Woolwine. Dick is survived by his wife, Jan of McCook; two daughters, Cherie Woolwine of Culbertson and Jan and husband, Jim Gustafson, of Kearney; two step-sons, Alan and wife, Christi Wiemers, of Riverdale, NE; Brian and wife, Anne Wiemers, of McCook; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph Woolwine of Oklahoma City, OK, Lorraine and husband, Johnny Marshall, of Ajijic, Mexico, Vance and wife, Terry Woolwine, of Eden Prairie, MN; and sister-in-law, Lois Woolwine of Stevens Lake, WA. Memorials may be left in Dicks name and left at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Memorial Services will be held at the First Congregational Church in McCook on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.
