Richard Earl Walter

Richard E. "Dick" Walter, age 89, of McCook passed away at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on August 21, 2018. He was born on November 25, 1928 in Ellsworth, KS to John and Anna (Hein) Walter. Dick attended a one room school through the 8th grade. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950. On May 16, 1953, he was sent to Germany with the 2nd Armored Calvary Division as a tank commander. On June 11, 1954 he was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sargent. On July 24, 1955, Dick was united in marriage to Thelma Tucker in McCook, NE. They had a wonderful 62 years together. Thelma preceded him in death on April 11, 2018. Dick worked for several companies before his last 16 years at Perry Grain Company. He retired in June of 1992. His family was his pride and joy. Dick loved working in his yard and taking care of his vehicles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma; daughter, Sandra Lynn; sister, Caroline and husband, Bernard Aumann. He is survived by three sons, Gary and wife, Sue, of Fortuna, CA, Steven and wife, Debra, of McCook, and Tim and wife, Brenda, of McCook; grandchildren, Chris Brown, Jeremy and wife, Crystal Walter, Spencer Walter, Olivia and husband, John Huffmann; great-grandchildren, Macy and Mackenna Brown, Evalyn Huffman, and Landon Walter. Visitation will be held on Thursday August 23, from 1:00 PM till 7:00 PM with family present from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 10:30 AM with Richard Karr officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery in McCook with Military Honor Detail of the U.S. Army. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com.
