Richard Burton

Richard Burton of McCook passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was 88 years old. Richard was born on May 19, 1928 to parents, Lyman and Hazel (Johnson) Burton. He graduated from Curtis School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE. On June 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Delores Nelson. They made their home on a farm north of Bartley where they raised their three children. Richards life was the farm where he grew corn, wheat, sunflowers and raised cattle. He retired from the farm in 1998 and the couple moved to McCook. After moving to McCook, Richard worked in maintenance and lawn care at McCook Community College for seven years. Richards spare time was consumed by reading, auto body work and wood working. He also enjoyed a good story with friends and family and especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lyman and Hazel Burton; infant sister; and brother, Wes Burton. Survivors include his devoted wife, Delores Burton of McCook; daughters, Rhonda and husband, Tom Williamson, of Denver, CO and Cindy and husband, Dave Burton, of Bartley; son, Richard Burton and wife, Laurie, of Elizabeth, CO; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Truman Burton and wife, Sherrie, of Lincoln, Carlyle Burton of Indianola and Dyle Burton and wife, Bev, of Bartley; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in his name to the McCook Public Library. Visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2017, at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 18, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating Burial will follow in the Bartley Cemetery.
