Rex Solomon

January 10, 1956 — November 23, 2014

Rex Douglas Solomon, resident of McCook, NE, passed peacefully to a new life free of disease and pain on November 23, 2014. Rex was born to Jack and Vicki Solomon in McCook, NE on January 10, 1956. He grew up in McCook, and is survived by his sisters Debra Khouri of Oriental, NC, Deanna Carroll of Granbury, TX, and brother JB Solomon of Mountain Home, AR. He was married twenty years to Carla (McClung) Solomon with whom he had two children, Barrett Solomon, recently married to Janae Harris and Cheney Solomon, soon to be married to Trevor Maddux. His wife Carla was lost to cancer in 2002. Rex is survived by his second wife of nine years, Tammy (Ruf)Solomon. Rex often said that God had given him two wives with angels wings to love and care for him through his joys and pain. Those of us privileged to know these ladies say it is true! Rex was a member of the McCook Masonic Lodge #135 & York Right Bodies. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of McCook, and a delegate for the Red Willow Republican Party. He had a passion for liberty, freedom and the values that made America great. He felt his greatest achievement was the raising of Barrett and Cheney into honest, hard-working, capable and kind-hearted adults who will live their lives fired by a passion for life and the seeking of truth in all things as did Rex. One of his greatest joys was attending his sons wedding last summer and his greatest disappointment is missing Cheneys wedding this summer. He took pleasure in simple things helping a friend, having his dog at his side, planting trees and gardens and seeing them grow, sighting in rifles and sharing laughs and beers with friends. Rex did not fear death. Due to his faith and near-death experiences he knew it to be a passage to a better life than we know here. He spoke often of the joy of his reunion with his family members and friends who have gone before him especially his high school buddies lost in the tragic auto accident of Rex's high school yrs. Rex is dearly loved by family and friends who shared the ups and downs of his life. He will be greatly missed even as they celebrate his new pain free life. Per his wishes, Rexs remains are being cremated. A celebration of Rex's life is scheduled with family and friends for January 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Rex requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial fund be established in his name to be dispersed to various causes dear to his heart.
