Pietro 'Joe' Giorgione

McCook, NE - Pietro "Joe" Giorgione. 67, of McCook, died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Community Hospital of McCook after a swift battle with cancer. He was born June 1, 1950 to Giuseppe and Adelina (Sgambelluri) Giorgione in Siderno Superiore, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He immigrated to the United States with six of his brothers and sisters, as well as his parents in 1969. On April 12, 1972 he married Maureen Suzanne Sullivan in Harbor Creek, Pennsylvania. The couple lived in Rochester, NY until 1976, then moved to Windsor, Colorado. In 1998, Joe and his wife moved to McCook. Joe grew up on a farm raising olive trees, grapes, oranges, corn and other grains. He was on his own at 15 years old, working in Germany in a coal mine. He also spent many years as a brick layer, remodeling and building homes as well as storage sheds. He ran his business, Joe's Brick Homes with his sons, Pietro Jr. and Franco until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Esterina and a brother, Cosimo Giorgione of Italy. Survivors include: wife Maureen, daughter Suzanne Pierson of Culbertson, sons Pietro Giorgione Jr. (Meghan), Franco Giorgione (Heidi) all of McCook, brothers Luigi Giorgione (Maria), Antonio Giorgione, sisters Ada Carteri, Bianca Gutta (Domenico) , Maria Commisso (Giuseppe) all of New York, Franca Sirigu of South Carolina, sister-in-law Tita Giorgione of Italy, sister-in-law Charlene Schwartz (Mike) and brother-in-law Tom Sullivan (Mary) all of New York; grandchildren, Giuseppe Pietro Wilcox (Kory) of McCook, Adelina Wilcox, Ariana Pierson, Montana Wilcox all of Culbertson, Atia Giorgione, Franco Giorgione Jr. and Giovanni Giorgione all of McCook and one great-grandson, Gianni Garcia-Wilcox. Memorials may be given in his name. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family will be present from 5:00 7:00 p.m. to greet friends. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
