Patricia 'Pat' Marie Messinger

Patricia Marie (Rossitto) Messinger, 69, passed away at her home south of McCook on May 16, 2024 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Pat was born the fourth of five children on April 24, 1955 in McCook, NE to Carl J. and Arlene (Bachand) Rossitto. She attended Saint Patricks Elementary School, graduating from McCook High School in 1973. She went on to obtain her nursing degree from UNMC School of Nursing in 1976. Following college, she began her 43 year nursing career at McCook Community Hospital. She went on to establish the Cardiac Rehabilitation program where she continued until her retirement. Pat married the love of her life, Mark Messinger, on November 6, 1976. They made their home south of McCook where they raised their three children and enjoyed every minute spent with the grandchildren. She lived for a quiet and peaceful life filled with her love for her family. She spent time outdoors working in the yard, bird watching, reading a wide genre of books, doing sudoku and word puzzles, solitaire, teaching the kids in the kitchen, and putting together puzzles. She could always be found sitting on the floor playing or building many creations with the grandchildren. She was always willing to lend a hand on the farm wherever needed. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brother Carl A. (Champ) Rossitto, sister Shirley (Rossitto) Young, and father-in-law Willard Messinger. Pat is survived by her husband Mark; children Paul Messinger, Amy Messinger, and David (Kari) Messinger all of McCook; her grandchildren Leah, Adelynn, and Norah Messinger of McCook, Miles Bohmont of McCook and Lanouette Bohmont of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her sister Mary (Wayne) Johnson of Manning, IA; brother Jim Rossitto of New Orleans, LA; sister-in-law Jeannene Rossitto of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Richard Young of Ord, NE; brother-in-law Kirk (Peggy) Messinger and mother-in-law Eva Messinger of McCook, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Friday evening, May 24, 2024 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 1 PM on Saturday afternoon, May 25, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook with Father Bernard Kimminau celebrating. Inurnment in the St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery of McCook will follow services.
