Norma Gayle Spickelmier Rogers was born on July 14, 1955 to Harvey and June (Barger) Spickelmier at St. Catherines Hospital in McCook, Nebraska. She lived in McCook for most of her life, making many connections and raising her two children, Kevin and Lindsay. In 2016 Norma moved to Neola, Iowa to be closer to her daughter, Lindsay. She was surrounded by family when she passed away at the Fox Run assisted living facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Thursday, July 18, 2024. She was 69 years of age.
Norma graduated from Hayes Center High School and furthered her education at the Grand Island School of Business and Great Plains Community College. Norma was an LPN for over thirty years, serving the community of McCook at Community Hospital and Hillcrest Nursing Home.
Norma was a woman with many God given talents and gifts. She spent countless hours sewing, baking and gardening. She was also an avid photographer of lifes moments. Norma loved spending time with her family, whether it be shopping together or going to the zoo. She especially valued time spent with her grandchildren at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. She also collected dolls and, in her youth, participated in barrel racing.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and June; sisters-in-law, Debbie Spickelmier and Marilyn Spickelmier; and a nephew, Benjamin Alloway
Survivors include her son, Kevin (Angie) Rogers of McCook; daughter, Lindsay (Brian) Chessmore of Neola; grandchildren: Kory Rogers of Omaha, Kendra Rogers of McCook, Athan Chessmore and Aletha Chessmore of Neola, Trevor Felber of Kearney, Nebraska and Tate Felber of Hastings, Nebraska; siblings: Russ (Joyce) Spickelmier of Culbertson, Nebraska, Carol (Rudy) Alloway of Phillips, Nebraska, Merle Spickelmier of Hemingford, Nebraska and Dennis Spickelmier of Lincoln, Nebraska; she will also me missed and remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2024 at McCook Christian Church in McCook with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery of McCook will follow services. Honoring Norma's wishes, the casket will remain closed. Services will be livestreamed on the McCook Christian Church Facebook page for those that are unable to attend.
