Nora T. Lewis

Nora T. Lewis of McCook, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Community Hospital. She was 88 years old. Nora was born at McCook to parents August and Julia M. (West) Cappel. She graduated from McCook High School in 1945 and continued her education at McCook Junior College. On April 15, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert James Lewis, Jr. at McCook. To this union two children, Nancy and Jim, were born. They made their home in McCook. Nora spent her life as a bookkeeper for various businesses in McCook including Stoeppelwerth Drilling before retiring from McCook Schools Athletic Department and Superintendents Office. Nora was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and PEO Chapter X. She volunteered countless hours for the American Cancer Society making thousands of candles for the memorial luminaries for McCooks Relay for Life. She enjoyed her flower garden, painting, and playing bridge with her friends. She treasured the time spent with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, August and Julia Cappel; her husband, Bob Lewis; sisters, Gladys Krantz, Anne Greenlee, Rosa Bearden, Helen Fidler, and Dorothy Harris; brothers, Glen Cappel and Charles Cappel and two in infancy, William Cappel and Earl Cappel; and sister-in-law Sigrid (Lewis) Bower. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy and husband, Mark Frecks, of Culbertson; son, Jim Lewis and wife, Shari, of Culbertson; five grandchildren, Isaac Frecks, Sarah and Andrew White, Joseph and Amy Frecks, Alexis and Matt Davidson and Austin and Chandra Lewis, and nine great-grandchildren, Riley, Dayvie and Jackson White, Barrett and Creighton Frecks, Avery and Cooper Davidson, and Kinslee and Pace Lewis; special friend Grace Colgan; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Monday, August 15, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. The family will be present from 6:00 7:00. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with Rev.
