Nellie Margaret McConville of McCook passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Hillcrest Nursing Home surrounded by her four daughters. Nellie just celebrated her 99th birthday. She was born on January 3, 1917 in Red Willow County, Nebraska to parents, John H. and Emma (Crocker) Reiners. She graduated from Red Willow High School in 1934. She received her certificate to teach and taught in many schools throughout Frontier County. On October 9, 1941 she was united in marriage to Leo Francis McConville at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola. They remained in the Indianola and Bartley communities where they raised their four daughters, Jane, Lois, Patricia, and Emma Jean. Besides being a busy mother, homemaker and teacher Nellie became a beautician. She also worked in many school cafeterias throughout the years. Leo and Nellie were also owners of Champion Recreation and Lunch in McCook for many years. Nellie made all the pies for their restaurant and soon had the reputation for making the best pies in southwest Nebraska thus the nickname The Pie Lady came about. She never used a recipe just a little of this and a little of that. She loved spending time and cooking for her family. Nellie was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church and Altar Society in McCook and former member of St. Catherines Catholic Church and Altar Society in Indianola. Nellies other interests included bingo, playing cards, bowling and quilting. She never like to sit idle unless she was listening to or watching her favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Emma Reiners; her husband, Leo McConville on February 11, 2009; five sisters, Grace Stritt, Stella Pratt, Sister Alice Catherine Reiners, Mae Karp, and Luella McConville; three brothers, Franklin Reiners, Glenn Reiners, and infant Eugene Reiners; and an infant great-grandson, Isaac Cornwell. Survivors include her four loving daughters, Jane and husband, Richard Rayer, of Indianola, Lois and husband, Bryan Kinne, of Grand Island, Patricia and husband, Jonathan Burkey, and Emma Jean and husband, David Colling, all of Lincoln; one sister, Sister Madelene Reiners of OFallon, Missouri; 16 grandchildren, Michael Rayer, Father Daniel Rayer, Janet (Tim) Cornwell, Marla (Randy) Hoelscher, Lonnie Kinne, Larry (Dawn) Kinne, Lori (Steve) Stein, Lynn (Katie) Kinne, Lanette Kinne, David (Cheryl) Burkey, Lisa (Tracy) Eustace, Brenda (Matt) Manteufel, Mark Colling, Anne (Travis) McCarville, Marie (Martin) Kipper, and Laura Colling (fianc Kyle Stone); 25 great- grandchildren; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until time of Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook. The casket will be open at the church for friends and family to pay their respects. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend words of comfort to the family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 9, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Indianola with grandson, Father Daniel Rayer, as celebrant.
