N. Joyce Wolters

Nita Joyce Wolters age 93 of McCook, passed away at her home on September 13, 2020. She was born in Atwood, Kansas on September 20, 1926 to Leo Bernard and Nellie Florence (Dunn) Bowles. Joyce grew up in Atwood and graduated from Atwood High School in 1944. On April 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Frederick Kastens Wolters in Atwood, KS, to this union three children were born: Marilyn, Gary and Roger. Frederick preceded her in death on March 22, 1995. The couple farmed south of Trenton before moving to Trenton in 1961. In 1961 Joyce began working for the United States Postal Service as a clerk. She worked in Stratton, Trenton, and Culbertson. In 1979 she moved to McCook where she continued to work for USPS until she retired in 1986. Joyce was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church. She was a fabulous cook and baker, known for many special "Joyce" recipes. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for her daughter and grandchildren. She was an avid garage sale and estate auction attendee. Joyce enjoyed her flower gardens. She was the owner of the Merle Norman Cosmetic store in McCook. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Frederick; daughter: Marilyn Wolters; brother: Bernard "Bud" and wife Jerry Bowles; sister: Joann and husband Bob Mann. Joyce is survived by her two sons: Roger Wolters of McCook, Gary and wife Jeniffer, of Oberlin, KS; five grandchildren: Kelsie Wolters, Desiree Nessline, Shelby (Tanner) Hardy, Danyel (Clint) Krizek, Erin Basnett; six great-grandchildren: Eli Hardy, Kenna Hardy, Blake Krizek, Donald Basnett, Kaden Nessline, Keehgan Nessline, as well as several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood, KS on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Jim Jones officiating.
