Milton "Lyle" Wilcox was born in Beatrice, Nebraska on March 5, 1925, to Paul W. & Constance E. (Lilly) Wilcox and was escorted into the arms of Jesus on November 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. Due to his father being a construction superintendent, Lyle attended numerous schools in Kansas & Missouri, graduating from high school at Belleville, Kansas in 1943. Following graduation, Lyle entered the U.S. Army, training as a half-track driver at Camp Haan, California. His half-track crew landed on Utah Beach in July, 1944, part of the 390th anti-aircraft battalion. Lyle's division was involved in the campaigns of Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, & Central Europe. After serving in The Army of Occupation in Germany, he was honorably discharged January 13, 1946. After discharge, Lyle attended Nebraska Wesleyan University & later graduated from The University of Nebraska College of Agriculture. On June 5, 1948, Lyle married Helen "Jean" Matzke in Western, Nebraska. They lived in Lincoln & Aurora before moving to McCook in 1959, where he worked as a farm manager for Farmers National Company. In 1968, the family moved to Iran where he was employed as an agricultural consultant for Khuzestan Water & Power Authority at Dezful, Iran, developing and training the Iranians in modern farming methods. Lyle also completed a feasibility study for the World Bank in Syria. After the family returned to McCook in 1973, Lyle was self-employed as a realtor and farm manager, retiring completely in 2011. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Paul, Raymond, Richard, and Marylou (Quain). Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Jean, sons Steve (Debra) of Aloha, Oregon, Mark (Betty) & Bruce (Debra) of McCook. Grandchildren, Brandon, Brent (Crissy), Whitney (Gavin) Holewa, Laura (Matt) Clause, Sarah (Adam) Powers, Elizabeth, Ethan, Grant, Reid, and Elsa, 15 great-grandchildren, sister Constance "Susie" (Willis) Skinner, of Leawood, Kansas, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorials may be given in his name to Community Hospital Home Health/Hospice, YMCA, or to donors choice. Inurnment will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE with full military honors. Memorial service will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Kelly officiating.
