Mildred L. (Loomis) Zink, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was 105 years old. Mildred was born to George W. and Ida (Hauxwell) Loomis, at rural McCook, on August 21, 1911. At the age of six months, she with her family, moved to Oregon. They later moved to Trinidad, CA and after several years spent there, the family moved back to Red Willow County. She attended rural schools and in 1929, she graduated from the Red Willow Consolidated High School. In 1930, she and her sister, Faye, entered Nurses Training at the Colorado Training School for Nurses at the Denver General Hospital in Denver, CO. In 1933, she graduated from nurses training and returned to Nebraska to take the state exams and become a Registered Nurse. Mildred worked for two years in the nursing profession, before her marriage to Kenneth R. Zink of Indianola, on January 1, 1935. On October 11, 1936, a son, Arden Kent Zink was born. After two years she resumed her nursing career and worked for a number of years in many phases of nursing. Mildred was a dedicated nurse and loved her profession. After retirement, she and Kenneth moved to McCook, after selling their farm. In 1988, they sold their home in McCook and moved to Louisville, NE to be near their son and doctors. In 1993, Kenneth passed away and in 1997, Mildred moved back to McCook, where she lived until her death. She was a 50-year member of the Methodist Church, a former member of the American Nurses Association, and the State and District Nurses Association. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; and son, Arden on May 5, 2001. Also, three sisters, Jessie Waddell, Faye Shepherd and Helen Meyers; and brother, Charles Loomis. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Kay Zink of Louisville, NE; two grandsons, Dr. Edmund Zink and wife, Deborah of Texas and Alex Lee Zink and wife, Vyanne of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren, Tara Weinberg (Ari), Jake Ryan Zink and Maria Rose Zink; two great-great-granddaughters, Adriana and Cora; sisters-in-law, LaVaughn Zink of Denver and Roberta Johnson of Alliance; nieces, Patricia Barrett and Marilyn Bohl and special niece who cared for her for many years, Joan Calvin of Culbertson; nephews, Kent Meyers and Keith Shepherd of McCook and Donal Waddell of Denver, CO; and great nieces and great-nephews. Memorials may be given in her name to Garden Prairie Methodist Church. There will be no visitation. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Graveside services will be at the Indianola Cemetery, Indianola, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating.
