Michael Scott Smith age 66 of Wilsonville NE, passed away on July 6, 2015 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge. Nebraska.
He was born on October 16, 1948 to Robert and Norma (Johnson) Smith at Cambridge Nebraska. He graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1966 and from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a bachelor of science in business. Michael worked in the beef business and farming his entire career.
He worked at and managed Minden Beef Packing plant and worked for Hebrew National Kosher meats from 1975 to 1993 living in Kearney Nebraska and Sioux City Iowa. He returned to Furnas County in 1993 to farm with his father and brother. Later Mike managed the Cambridge Ethanol plant and retired back to part time farming for C Kasson Inc.
Michael was a member and past board officer of the Furnas County Livestock Association. He was a supporter of the Wilsonville Rodeo and parade for a number of years.
He remained active in farming through this years spring planting. He continued to enjoy his sports; golfing, bowling and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Having time with his children and grandchildren was one of his favorite pastimes. Golfing with his family was one thing he loved, be it in Nebraska or Missouri. Mike also enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle on poker runs. An avid card player, he enjoyed several games of pitch and cribbage with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Stacey (Jon) Crumley of Elkhorn, NE, son, Justin (Crystal) Smith of Cape Girardeau, MO and daughter,r Jessica Smith of Wilsonville, NE, his grandchildren, Jack, Morgan and Kyle Crumley and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Smith, his mother, Norma Smith of Cambridge, one brother Rogerand wife Linette Smith of Wilsonville, NE, sisters Barbara and husband Darrell Muehling of Pullman Washington and Virginia and husband Mark Johnson of Kearney Nebraska. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Robert (Bob) Smith; a sister, Brenda Smith and a son. Trevor Michael Smith.
Michael was a very generous and kind son, father, grandfather (PaPa Mike) and friend to many people through his years and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 10:30 Am with Pastor Jeff Wulf officiating. The casket will be closed to the public as Mike requested. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be left to the Cross Creek Golf Links in Cambridge. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com
