Melvin A. Mcvicker

Melvin Mel A. McVicker, age76, of Palisade, Ne died at the Eldorado Manor in Trenton on December 1, 2013. He was born in Hayes Center on January 23, 1937 to Malachi and Ruth (Goucher) McVicker. He graduated from Hayes Center High school in 1954. In 1975 he was married to Shirley Bailey and to this union 3 children were born: Ronald, Meloney and Michelle. Mel farmed in the area for a while, worked for Hayes County for a short period. He was employed as a journeyman line man for the South West Public Power Company for 30 years. He worked for the Village of Palisade part-time after retirement. Mel served on the Palisade Fire Department for over 30 years. HE enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. In March of 1993 Mel married Colleen Moreau, the couple resided in Palisade their entire married life. Mel was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son: Bryan Witt; 3 sisters: Catherine Curtis and husband Ollen; Ellen Underhill and husband John; Elsie Buckley and husband Wendell. He is survived by his wife Colleen of Palisade; 2 daughters: Meloney McVicker of Anchorage AK; Michelle and husband Patrick Donovan of Sterling, NE; son; Ronald of Springfield, MO; 1 step daughter: Sarah Witt of Holdrege, NE; 1 step-son Dennis and wife Sabrina Witt of Shamrock TX; 12 grandchildren; 1 brother: Robert of Columbia, TN. Mel and Colleen also raised a granddaughter, Dawn Pinkal as a daughter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM (CST) at the Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Luke Wolford officiating. Interment will be in the Palisade Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Thursday and Friday from 9 AM till 6 PM. Memorials may be left in Mels name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook to either the McCook Humane Society or the Palisade Fire Department
