Mary Joann Robinson

August 16, 1936 — February 16, 2016

Mary Jody Robinson, formerly of McCook, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at her sons home in Gibbon, Nebraska surrounded by her family. Jody was born on August 16, 1936 to parents, Arley Rhea and Lucinda Marie (Ewing) Daley Steinhour. She was raised in McCook by her grandparents, William Ceceil and Ollie Mae Steinhour. She graduated from McCook High School in 1954. That same year she married her husband, Ronald Robinson, of Wellfleet, at the McCook Methodist Church. They lived most of their married life between McCook and North Platte, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born Ronald, Jimmy and David. Jody started working in high school and was a hardworking, dedicated woman ever year after until the decline of her health. She worked for Macs Drive-In in McCook and Sears and Schwezers in North Platte. She and her husband were owners and operators of Valley Sewing Center in North Platte for several years. She successfully sold Tupperware. Mary drove the school bus for Maywood School District for many years. She cleaned houses. She and her husband owned a number of rental properties in Maywood and Curtis. She was employed by Sunset Haven Nursing home in Curtis as a Dietary Aide until the decision to close the facility led to her termination. She was as out spoken as she was compassionate. She cared for several relatives and friends in their end of life. She helped raise five brothers and sisters as well as nieces and nephews in her younger years and three grandchildren in her later years. At age 26, she took on the task of raising 10 children under the age of ten while working fulltime. Being passionate about her family she traveled the world on a minimal budget by bus, train or plane. She loved to take the road less traveled and take the scenic route. She never found a thrift store or garage sale that she didnt like. She came to see each new born grandchild, attending the births when possible. She loved music and especially singing. She taught many children one of her favorite songs, You Are My Sunshine. One of her favorite sayings was, Speak in haste. Repent in leisure. Throughout her life, she remained as active as possible in her church and community. She was a member of the Eagles Womens Auxiliary of North Platte. She loved to bowl and did so on various leagues in North Platte and Curtis. Playing cards and scrabble were favorite pastimes. When she moved to Gibbon, NE in 2009, to live with her son, Ron and his wife, Sandy, she joined the Gibbon Garden Gals where she was secretary in 2010. She was also a member of the Gibbon Gabby Red Hatters from 2009 to 2014. She also enjoyed many hours of friendship at the Gibbon/Shelton Senior Center for lunches and card games. From a complex family comes a complex life. She met many hundreds of people from around the world through her attendance to annual holy days such as the Feast of Tabernacles while attending the Worldwide Church of God. Many became lifelong friends. She has long anticipated the return of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She long ago accepted Christ as her Savior. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents, her husband Ron, Sr., her youngest son David, her brothers, Ronald D. Steinhour, Sr., Kevin Henny, Kelly Mortensen, Kenny Henny, and her sister, Sharon Steinhour. Survivors include her oldest sons and their wives, Ronald H.
