Mary Ann Bauer

Mary Bauer, of McCook passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Mary was born on February 20, 1938 at Chicago, Illinois to parents Albert and Barbara (Griegl) Pilch. She attended school in LaSalle, Illinois. On November 8, 1957, she was united in marriage to William Bill L. Bauer in Sydney, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Robert & Mary. They made their home eventually in the McCook community. Mary was a busy mother and homemaker but also found time to go back to school and become an LPN. She worked at Hillcrest and El Dorado Nursing Homes. She was a member of the Culbertson and McCook VFW Auxiliary. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life. Mary volunteered countless hours for various organizations. She became known as the Cookie Lady making enumerable cookies of all kinds and taking them to nursing homes and shut-ins giving them all away. She also liked to crochet, read and work puzzles. Preceding her in death were her parents, Albert and Barbara Pilch; and sister, Betty Schimack. Survivors include her husband, Bill Bauer of McCook; children, Robert Bauer and wife, Ann, of China and Mary M. and husband, Kenneth Mahowald of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Katherine Lois Bauer, Robert Martin Bauer, William Warren Bauer, Jason Alexander Mohowald and Aaron Mahowald; sisters, Bernice Brunkowski, Frances Sojo, and Joan Coson all of Chicago; numerous nieces, nephews, family and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name to the American Heart Society or American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be Monday, August 15, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, Nebraska with Father Gary Brethour officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial Service
