Marjorie Pauline Phelps

Marjorie Pauline Phelps, long time resident of McCook passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home on Saturday, November 16, 2019. She was 99 years old. Marjorie was born on January 24, 1920 in Harlan County, Nebraska to parents, Harold and Anna (Kauk) Brown, Sr. She graduated from Alma High School and continued her education at Hastings College. Marjorie started working at the Orleans Creamery and it was there she met her future husband, Arthur Phelps. The couple was married on January 17, 1948 in McCook. The couple made their home in McCook where Marjorie was employed a brief time for Sidles Company. She was later employed by McCook National Bank as head bookkeeper, a position she held for over 20 years before retiring in 1980. Marjorie was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the BPO Does, McCook Drove #3, for 35 years serving as Conductor for five years. Marjorie enjoyed word puzzles, watching Baseball (Chicago Cubs) and football (Nebraska Huskers). She was known to her family and friends for her quick wit, sense of humor, and contagious smile. Preceding her in death were her parents, Harold and Anna Brown; husband, Arthur Phelps; and brother, Harold Brown, Jr. Survivors include her sister, LaVon Libert of Norman, OK; special nephew, Leroy Brown, and wife, Marcia, of Prague, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. Memorials may be given in her name to Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial service will be Wednesday, November 20, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, NE with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Orleans Cemetery, Orleans, NE Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook entrusted with arrangements.
