Marjorie Helen Brown

Marjorie Helen Brown passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 97 years old and the last of the Mitchem descendants of her generation. Marjorie was born on September 7, 1921 at McCook, NE, to parents Jesse Albert and Viretta Matilda (Bales) Mitchem. She grew up in McCook and attended McCook Schools. She continued her education at University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota. From college Marjorie spread the word of God thru her missionary work. She also worked for Ideal Laundry for many years. On August 15, 1964 she married Silas Brown in McCook. To this union Marjorie became the stepmother of three children. Besides being a busy homemaker and mother, she worked at St. Catherines Hospital as an aide and in the laundry department. She retired at the age of 75. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She loved to sing, read, and do embroidery work. She will be remembered as a very caring person who often took food to shut-ins and the sick, often sharing the word of God. Preceding her in death were her parents, Jesse and Viretta Mitchem; husband, Silas Brown; daughter-in-law, Connie Brown; brothers and sisters, Gale Mitchem, Vernon Mitchem, Robert Mitchem, Glenn Mitchem, Dale Mitchem, Harry Desmond, Sylvia Rogers, Eva Foster, Elva Drake and Vivian Mitchem. Survivors include her three stepchildren, Rick Brown of Oberlin, KS, Wanda (Randy) Mockry of McCook and Mike Brown of McCook; grandchildren; special nieces, Sandy Bolejack and Erma deLance both of Lincoln; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, during business hours on Thursday, June 27, 2019, 10:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be Friday, June 28, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at First Assembly of God Church in McCook with Pastor Barry Johnson officiating.
