Marilyn Irene Gaster of Indianola passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Hillcrest Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 68 years old. Marilyn was born on November 26, 1949, at Beatrice, Nebraska to parents, Verne Albert and Irene Edna (Fisher) Pretzer. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Diller High School with the class of 1967. She continued her education at Fairbury Community College and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. On December 26, 1971, she was united in marriage to James David Gaster in Fairbury. The couple was blessed with two sons, Bryan and Jeremy. The family moved to Culbertson where they would live until eventually making their home on an acreage south of Indianola. Marilyn taught school in various towns including Glenville, Fairbury, and Culbertson. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and Savior, faithfully reading her Bible daily, and praying for everyone in need. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church where she served on the Missions Team, Ladies Retreat Team, taught Sunday school, and helped in the nursery. Marilyn liked to cook for her family and work in her garden. She was always singing and loved playing with her granddaughter. Preceding her in death were her parents, Verne and Irene Pretzer; and maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, Jim Gaster, of Indianola; sons, Bryan Gaster of Los Angeles, CA and Jeremy Gaster and wife, Derlys, of McCook; granddaughter, Nicolette Gaster and anticipated arrival of a grandson in November; sister, Ruth and husband, Steven Gasper, of Fairbury; brother, Dean Pretzer and wife, Jane, of Diller; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name to the Evangelical Free Church Rocky Mountain District to start a new church in Douglas, WY. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Free Church in McCook with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time.
