Lynn A. Rakes of Cambridge, Nebraska died on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the age of 55. He was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on December 10, 1955 to Harold and Dorothy (Greenwood) Rakes. Lynn grew up in the NebraskaCity area and graduated from PioneerHigh School graduating in 1974. After graduation Lynn went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He continued his work as a Building and Bridge Mechanic and also as a foreman after the merger of Burlington Northern and the Santa Fe (BNSF), continually working for over 34 years. Lynn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in NebraskaCity at the BethelEvangelicalChurch. He was united in marriage to Denise Linner on October 1, 1983 at the PeaceLutheranChurch in McCook, NE. Denise and Lynn built a "coach car" home on Trail 4 of Medicine Creek Reservoir. At that time they moved their church membership to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Cambridge in August of 1983. Lynn loved the out of doors, they made their home on the lake ideal for pheasant, turkey, goose duck hunting and fishing that he so loved. He enjoyed processing his own deer and making sausage. He enjoyed playing card, pool bowling and shuffleboard. Lynn touched may lives, he enjoyed helping people, he enjoyed life to the fullest. Lynn was preceeded by his grandparents, parents and a brother Larry. He is survived by his wife: Denise of Cambridge; brother: Lonnie and wife Ramona of Nebraska City; sisters in-laws: Leah Rakes of McCook; Kathleen and husband Larry Tams of Alma; Shirley and husband Ervin Volgamore of Beaver City, NE; Margie and husband Earl Denio of Stratton, NE; Bev and husband Rodney "Butch" Hilker of Arapahoe, NE; brothers-in-law: Ron and wife Mary Linner of Bird City, KS; Doug and wife Kaye Linner of Hendley; NE; Jim and wife Heidi Linner of Norton, KS; Alvin and wife Sherry Linner of Beaver City, NE; Harold "Jr" and wife Don Linner of Beaver City, NE; Randy and wife Cindy Linner of Norton, KS and Roger and wife Kim Linner of Almena, KS.: along with many nieces and nephews and great nephews and nieces Memorial Services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:00 Am at the PeaceLutheranChurch in McCook, NE with Pastor David Feddern officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a future date. Friends may sign a book at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary from 9 AM till 8 PM on Thursday of leave on line condolences at lockenour.com. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers to the Cambridge Rescue Squad.
