Lyle "Luke" Laverack

     Lyle "Luke" Lee Laverack, born on September 6, 1960, in Cambridge, Nebraska, was the cherished son of Vernon and Juanita (Roepke) Laverack. A graduate of Cambridge High School in 1979, Luke’s work life began in 1977 as a ditch rider. He later owned the Town Talk Restaurant in Cambridge during the 1990s. He loved to cook for the folks in Cambridge and was good at it.

     After relocating to Rapid City, South Dakota, Luke worked for Red D Cash before founding Shamrock Landscaping and Irrigation in 2005. The company’s “safety meetings” were often held at Kelly’s Sports Bar in Rapid City, where Luke was affectionately known as the Mayor of Kelly’s. His company built commercial retaining walls and landscaped commercial properties, and he took pride in “making dirt look good.” He was an exceptional heavy equipment operator and especially enjoyed working with his son, Kaleb. Their work can still be seen throughout Rapid City and the surrounding area. In 2015, Lyle returned to Cambridge and worked with Timeless Management Construction to build several Goodwill stores in Nebraska. In 2018, he became the owner of Outlaws Saloon in McCook, capping a long and successful career in construction and business before retiring in 2025.

     Luke married Sharla on July 28, 2012, in Rapid City. Together, they shared a life rooted in love for each other, their family, and their beloved pets. Lyle regarded his children, Jennifer and Kaleb, as his greatest accomplishments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took special pride in sharing his love of hunting with his children, often saying that “Jennifer can dress out a deer with the best of them.” He treasured Sunday Fundays in Little Red with Sharla, turning up the music and barhopping. Luke will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

     Lyle "Luke" Laverack passed away at his home in Cambridge on Friday, August 7, 2026. He was 65 years of age.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Laverack; and a brother-in-law, Greg Saylor.

     Survivors include his wife, Sharla Laverack of Cambridge; daughter, Jennifer (Brandon) Koch of Kearney, Nebraska; son, Kaleb (Rachel) Laverack of Piedmont, South Dakota; grandchildren: Brianna Pratt, Felicia Sutterer, Leah Todd, Mason Todd, Ashton Todd, Kemper Koch, and Kase Koch; great-grandchildren: Cooper Sutterer, Sawyer Todd, and Beau Todd; sister, Vernita Saylor; as well as nieces and nephews and countless friends.

     A time for remembrance will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Outlaws 1882 Saloon in McCook (1006 West B Street). The obituary will be read at 2:00 PM followed by time for stories and reflections.
