Lonnie Joseph Anderson, 85, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Born on March 14, 1941 to Roy and Alvena (Bruhn). Lonnie lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska at the Douglas County Hospital.
As a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Lonnie found strength and fellowship through his faith. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he exemplified the values of charity, unity, and service throughout his life.
During his lifetime, Lonnie spent 40 years in law enforcement. This included being a police officer in Columbus, in McCook, a deputy sheriff in Red Willow County and a TSA officer in McCook. Lonnie also served four years on the McCook City Council.
Lonnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was married to Alice Kluck in 1962 and they had three children in that union. They later divorced and he married Sandra Lee Burgess in 1976. They also had three children in that union. Sandra passed away in 1999 and Lonnie then married Peg in 2001.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret “Peg” Anderson, and his six children: daughter Jacqueline Williams and her spouse, Ronald of Lincoln, NE, daughter Rebecca Bierman and her spouse, Brian of Lincoln, NE, son, Matthew Anderson and his spouse, Amy of Kalispell, MT, daughter Tara Dunn of Lincoln, NE, daughter, Nicole Geisinger and her spouse, Paul of Cashion, OK, and daughter, Christine Matheny and her spouse, Paul of Junction City, KS. He was a proud grandfather to: Zachary Williams, Jordan Williams, Jackson Bierman, Alexus (Taylor) Reed, Aleece Anderson, Alayna Anderson, Alyvia Anderson, Savanah Dunn, Brynn Geisinger, Sloan Geisinger, Randy Matheny, Madeline Matheny, Vincent Matheny and great-granddaughter, Lemon Reed. Each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. His family was the center of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Lonnie will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to his family, generous spirit, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the values he instilled in those he loved.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven now and Lonnie’s love, wisdom, and example will remain with them always.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM and Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Lonnie's family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Rosay will be recited, beginning at 7:00 PM
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook with Father Daniel Rayer celebrating. Burial in St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery in McCook will follow services.
Memorials in Lonnie's name are suggested to the Knights of Colombus Council 1126 of McCook, Nebraska. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
Lonnie’s family are grateful for the prayers, support, and expressions of sympathy from all who knew and loved him.
