Lola Kennedy

Lola Fay Kennedy, 97, Culbertson, Nebraska, formerly of Wauneta, died at Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was born June 17, 1921, in Chase County, Nebraska to Ira Mart and Flora Estella (Bennett) Stretch. Lola grew up in Wauneta where she graduated from Wauneta High School in 1941. On June 2, 1943, she married Karlyle William Kennedy with whom she lived happily for 58 years until his death in June, 2001. Fifty-five of those years were spent on the same farm on which they started their marriage. Through their years of marriage she helped with the farming, and harvesting the fields, milking cows, raising cattle, and chickens and doing whatever else was needed of her. Lola loved her family unconditionally and unselfishly and gave her everything doing her best to see that they had what they needed. Lolas heart was broken when their granddaughter, Dawn Kennedy died in a house fire. During her active lifetime Lola was a member of the Goldenrod Extension Club and the Wauneta Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kennedy; a granddaughter, Dawn; parents, Ira and Flora Stretch; three brothers, her twin, Lloyd, and Les and Oscar; and two sisters, Ethel Bridgeman and Ellen Prior. Surviving her is one son, Dennis and wife, Peggy, of Culbertson, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Shannon Rebhein of Pleasanton, Tamara (Doug) Nichols of Miller, Michael (Amy) of Shepherd, MT, and Cody (Jody) of Pleasanton, NE; one step-granddaughter, Suzanne (Craig) Close of Pensacola, FL; 17 great-grandchildren; one step-great grandson; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Home in McCook from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. CST. The casket will be open at the Community Center prior to services on Wednesday. Funeral services will be 2:00 MST, at Wauneta Community Center in Wauneta, Nebraska with Pastors Randy Hayes and Alisa Parde officiating. Burial will follow services in the Riverside Cemetery.
