Lillian (Farr) Sayer the second child of Edward and Millie (Basinger) Farr was born on the family farm northwest of Holbrook on January 26, 1918. She departed this life at the Elwood Nursing Home on May 5, 2015 at the age of 97.
Lillian attended Prairie Bell School in Frontier County through the eighth grade. After finishing school, Lillian worked at home until her marriage. She met Donald Sayer at a country dance in the neighborhood and went with him for about two years before their wedding February 14, 1939. Times were hard, and few had big weddings or honeymoons. They went to the Methodist minister in McCook and got married at his parsonage. That night they were shivareed by those from neighboring farms. Don worked for the Sawyer Ranch on Medicine Creek. This area is now under water after the Medicine Creek Dam was built. They lived on the Sawyer Ranch for about three years. Then WW II began and Don and Lillian moved over to the east place of Ed Farr and rented Eds farm there. In 1944 they bought the place on Deer Creek and farmed there until about 1953. They then moved to Cambridge. Lillian was an integral part of the farming operation and kept the records and books.
Donald and Lillian adopted Lawrence Sayer in June of 1960 and raised him in Cambridge. Besides being a busy homemaker and mother Lillians hobbies included flowers, gardening. Cooking, watching birds and spending time with family. She often reminisced about her days as a den mother to Lawrences cub scouts and about the fun times she had had with Donalds sisters and others at dances.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sayer; her parents, Edward and Millie Farr; and brothers, Eldon, Emert, and Roy Farr.
