Lewis M Mcfarland

Lewis Milton McFarland, age 94, of McCook, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Imperial Manor, Imperial, NE. Lewis was born January 5, 1925 at Wilsonville, NE to Orville and Eliza (McCall) McFarland. Lewis grew up on the family farm near Wilsonville and attended school at Sunflower School to the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm and helped other farmers. He then worked a short time for the railroad until he joined the Army where he served in the Korean War on the front line from 1951-1953 for 14 months. After his discharge he went to work for Ward Rice feeding cattle and drove a truck hauling cattle to market. Following that he was employed by several different employers, including Orleans Hay Mill, City of Cambridge, Cambridge Coop, and Cambridge Hay Mill. In 1979, he moved to McCook and worked for the Hose Plant, Perry Grain, and McCook Gazette. He was married on December 4, 1954 to LaVeda Jones at Cambridge, NE. To this union one son, Dennis Ray McFarland was born. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Eliza; two sisters, Effa Dale Luther and Mary Ella Gill; nephew, Dan Luther; niece, Kathy Reagan; and in-laws, Floyd and Mildred Wolfe. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, LaVeda McFarland of McCook; son, Dennis McFarland and wife, Linda, of McCook; two grandchildren, Megan McFarland and Les McFarland; and others that called him grandpa. He will be remembered as a caring, loving, and helpful man that was always willing to help anyone in need. Memorials may be given in his name to the Christian Baptist Church or Wilsonville Cemetery. Memorial services will be Friday, May 17, 2019, 10:00 a.m., at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Jim Jones officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wilsonville Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors.
