Leroy Hyke, age 77, died at the Mary Lanning Hospital on July 12, 2012. He was born at home in Hendley, NE on December 13, 1934 to Gilbert Bud and Adith Mae (Dillin) Hyke. LeRoy attended school in Hendley. Leroy served in the US Army from 1958 and later fulfilling his duty in the Army Reserve till 1964. Leroy was trained to be a track vehicle and auto mechanic. His best Army experience other than being in Germany was to meet Elvis Presley. LeRoy was married to Barbara L. Kasson December 1. 1962 and she preceded him in death Feb 16, 1975. To this union two children were born: Christina Christy Kay and Timothy Wayne. LeRoy farmed for a while, but his true love was being a mechanic. He worked for many places during his lifetime: he worked for Dave Andre in Wilsonville; the Ford dealership in Cambridge; Williams Oil Company of KS in Hastings he worked for the Hastings Motor Truck Company: Warner Construction. He was also an accomplished boat mechanic. He spent summers working for Hill Marine in Hastings and a Lake Lovewell in KS. LeRoy enjoyed his motor cycles, especially his Harleys. Was a member of the NRA and loved to shoot his guns. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Barb. He is survived by his daughter: Chisty Vap of Cambridge, NE; son: Timothy and wife Darlene Hyke of Huron, SD; 4 grand children and 4 great grandchildren. A Gathering of Friends and Family was held on Sunday July 15, 2012 at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, NE.
