Leroy Kenneth Cook

LeRoy Kenneth Cook, age 86 of Culbertson, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at home. He was born on March 6, 1930 to Elmer and Laura (Walker) Cook. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1947. He married Betty Schmidt on October 2, 1949. To this union three children were born: Linda, Laurie, and Coni. LeRoy was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He was active in the church serving on the church council, the finance committee and being an elder. He also served on the Farmers Co-op Board of Directors. LeRoy started farming in 1949 and sold seed corn for 25 years. He also drove a medical courier route for twenty four years retiring in 2011. He enjoyed square dancing, antique cars and tractors, and camping. His favorite pastime was reading history and western novels. Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Laura; and his sisters, Karen Kliewer, Virginia Scott and infant sister Barbara. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Betty of Culbertson; daughters, Linda (Roger) Patterson of Sacramento CA, Laurie (Chris) Ryan of North Platte, NE and Coni (Malcolm) Ward of Anthem, AZ; three grandchildren Alyssa (Anthony) Scotto, Erin (Josh) Ball, and Aaron (Sarah) Ryan and three great- grandchildren; sisters, Karel (Jerry) Applebee of Fort Collins, CO and Dottie (Jim) Groen of Denver, CO; and brother, Ron (Lila) Cook of Culbertson; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church in Culbertson or Community HealthCare and Hospice. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family will be present from 4:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. to greet friends. Funeral services will be at St Johns Lutheran Church, Culbertson, on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10:30 am with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
