LaVonne Betty (Sayer) Hanchera was born to parents Leo and Ida Sayer on May 16, 1936, in rural Cambridge, Nebraska. She attended McCook Public Schools and graduated in 1954 from MHS. On June 9, 1954, she married DeWayne Hanchera, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2019. It was important to LaVonne to remain in her home surrounded by family until her passing on August 7, 2026.
DeWayne and LaVonne raised four boys together while farming in the Danbury, Nebraska Community. LaVonne was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church being baptized, confirmed and married in the Church. DeWayne and LaVonne enjoyed dancing and cherished friendship with many of the neighbors in their community. LaVonne also enjoyed crocheting along with cooking and baking. Her chocolate cake was present at every celebration.
LaVonne was proceeded in death by her husband, DeWayne; parents, Leo Sayer, and Ida (Art) Stoll; in-laws, Bill Hanchera and Edith (Bert) Hanchera-Clary; half-brothers, Gene and Dick Tyrell; son, Robert; and daughter-in-law, Jan Hanchera.
Those that survive are her sons: Steven (Katherine) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Daniel (Mary) of Houston, Texas, and Scott (Kristyl) of Danbury Nebraska; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Marissa (Joshua) Keldgord, children, Carter, and Colton, Andrea (Robby) Russman, children, Noah, Nolan and Nash, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joshua (Deaver) Hanchera and son, Wesley, Gabrielle (Brian) Hickner, and Rachel and Michael Hanchera all of Houston, Texas, Ryan and Danielle Hanchera of Denver, Colorado and their mother, Kelly Siedenberg, Lindsay (Lee) McConville, children, Elizabeth and Emma, Alex (Melissa) Hanchera and son, Benjamin all of Danbury, Nebraska; nephews and nieces, Cyndie, Deb, Monte, Terry, Gene Roland and Sherree and families.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 11, 2026 from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM at Hermann -Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook (607 Norris Avenue); LaVonne’s family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday August 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook (411 East 6th). Pastor Lonnie Felcher will officiate the service. The service can be viewed on the Peace Lutheran Church Facebook page. Burial in the Danbury-Marion Cemetery will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in LaVonne’s name to Peace Lutheran Church, McCook Nebraska. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hermann – Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
