LaVern M. "Pete" Petersen age 77, died at the Tri Valley Assisted Living on Monday, September 13, 2010. He was born in Cambridge on June 22, 1933 to Elmer C. and Gladys (Estergard) Petersen. LaVern grew up on the farm north of Cambridge. Pete attended and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Margaret "Margie" Lockenour on October 1, 1956. To this union 3 children were born: Jill, Suzanne and Mike. Pete served his country in Korean Conflict serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Cambridge. He and Margie ran the Jack and Jill market in Cambridge and Oxford for many years. He operated the Cambridge Locker, managed the Holdrege Elks Club, Broken Bow Country Club and owned and operated the Town Talk Restaurant. Pete was an excellent cook and was known for his prime rib dinners. Upon retirement to keep himself busy he helped mow at the Cross Creek Golf Course in Cambridge. Pete enjoyed the fishing and hunting. Entertaining and cooking for friends. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother; Eugene and an infant sister Caroline. He is survived by his 2 daughters: Jill and Ken Edgmon of Ft. Collins, CO; Suzanne Day of Phoenix, AZ; son: Mike Petersen of Kearney, NE; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grand children; 1 brother: Jerry and wife Anastasia Petersen of Cambridge. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the FairviewCemetery of Cambridge. Military Honors will be conducted graveside by the American Legion Post. Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Fund in LaVerns name. Friends may leave on line condolences at lockenour.com
